Step 1: The Hippo Measuring Method

You don't need to be a pro to get a perfect fit. Just follow our "Rule of Three" to ensure your smart shades glide perfectly from day one.

Inside vs Outside Mount

1. Choose Your Mount

Inside Mount: Best for a sleek, architectural look. Your shades sit inside the window casing. *Requires 2.5" of window depth.*

Outside Mount: Best for total light blockage and making small windows look larger. The shade is mounted on the wall or trim above the window.

2. The "Rule of Three"

Window frames are rarely perfectly square. To ensure your motor doesn't bind, measure in three places:

Width: Measure the Top, Middle, and Bottom. Use the narrowest width.

Height: Measure the Left, Center, and Right. Use the longest height.
PRO TIP: Always use a metal tape measure. Cloth tapes can stretch and lead to inaccurate measurements that could cause your smart shade to snag.
